IELTS Writing Checker

Paste an IELTS Task 1 or Task 2 answer and get an instant band estimate from 0 to 9 in half-band steps, broken down across the four official criteria, with specific suggestions for your next draft. An automated self-check, not an official result.

How to use it

Step 1

Paste a full answer

Use a complete Task 1 or Task 2 response. The more finished your draft, the more useful the band estimate. See the Task 2 essay guide for structure.

Step 2

Read each criterion

Look at where each of the four bands sits, not just the overall figure. Learn what each band means in the band scores guide.

Step 3

Get a human review

An estimate cannot replace a marked correction. Our IELTS writing correction service gives you line-by-line feedback from a qualified teacher.

IELTS Writing Checker — common questions

How accurate is the IELTS Writing Checker?+

It gives an automated band estimate aligned to the four official criteria, useful for spotting weak areas between drafts. It is a guide, not an official result. A qualified teacher reviewing your work is far more reliable for a real band judgement.

Does it work for both Task 1 and Task 2?+

Yes. Paste an Academic Task 1 data description, a General Training Task 1 letter, or a Task 2 essay. The checker judges your answer on its merits as whichever task it appears to be and reports a band for each criterion.

Which criteria does it score?+

The four IELTS Writing criteria: Task Response (Task Achievement on Task 1), Coherence & Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range & Accuracy. Each is reported on the 0 to 9 band scale in half-band steps.

Is this affiliated with the official IELTS test?+

No. This is an independent practice tool and is not affiliated with IDP, British Council or Cambridge. It cannot promise a band. For a marked correction by a qualified teacher, use our paid IELTS writing correction service.
